4 Tips to Dieting While on a Budget.

October 26, 2017

There is a myth out there that dieting is expensive and can cost the average person a great deal of money. The truth of the matter is that life in itself is expensive and it is challenging for people to make ends meet. With the increase in the cost of living and the non-existent rise in wages, people are struggling to pay their bills and put food on the table.

It is no wonder that people believe that dieting is more expensive as you can purchase a happy meal at Mcdonald’s for a few dollars whereas a salad is double the price. While there are many instances where eating healthy is more expensive, it doesn’t have to be. This article will highlight some ways that you can eat healthy and diet while on a budget.

1. Get creative. Being creative in the kitchen will save you a great deal of money. For example, if you are having dinner with your kids, instead of feeding them the same leafy greens and lean protein that you will make for yourself, consider making your children food that they will enjoy such as Kraft Macaroni and Cheese and chicken nuggets. Children have more energy and can burn off the calories that they will take in whereas you should stick to your diet plan. Lastly, your kids are more likely to eat the kid-friendly meals that cost a few dollars instead of your meals that will be more expensive. Feed your kids what they want and avoid wasting good food on them which will save you money.

 2. Join a food plan. Many people believe that joining a food program can be costly and cumbersome. While this may be the case for some, it all depends on what type of program you join. Some programs, such as Nutrisystem, offer a variety of plans that you can choose from. In addition, there are sales, promotion codes, and other deals that Nutrisystem offers its members from time to time so you can stock up and save money by purchasing your favorites in bulk. 3. Eat more vegetables and fruit. While you are on a diet, it is a good idea to load up your plate on more fruits and vegetables. In fact, your plate should be mostly vegetables which many do not make a habit. Fruit and vegetables can be exorbitantly expensive when purchasing from a typical supermarket so be sure to visit your local farmer’s market at least once a week. Your farmer’s market will have great prices and you will save a great deal of money by purchasing your produce directly from the source.

4. Drink more water. Your body is in need of water to stay hydrated. Sometimes your body may tell your brain that it is hungry when it is actually just thirsty and in need of water. Drink at least 64 ounces a day so that the body can wash out unwanted toxins. You will have more energy and feel better overall. Not to mention, you will feel full longer as well.
